Help me fellow tatters....

This past year I have mostly been using flora size 20 thread. I think it is a wonderful, strong, and colorful thread and it appeals to me on so many levels.
Last night I decided to tat with some size 70 thread and quickly remembered why I don't tat with the smaller threads too often. Twice in one motif the thread broke as I was closing a ring. It was so frustrating I chucked the whole project. Does anyone else have this happen? How do you combat it? Can anyone suggest some really nice, strong, slippery size 80, 70 tatting thread?

I use Venus,Majestic and DMC with no problem, The venus and Majestic are a smoother thread (in my opinion) Since you are used to working with the thicker thread could it be your tension? Try being softer(which i Really have to do when working with 185 thread for the Honiton lace!) and support your ring as you close it. (pinch the ring between thumb and index finger of the left hand as you gently ease the core thread out with the right(if you tat right handed)with the extra support it might stop the snapping.
Let me know when you try it again...and i'll bring some small thread to the convention for you to play with :-)

I will give that a try Jen. Also I think it might be because my thread is old. Does thread change as it ages?

Does it ever!...older thread can become brittle as it gets too dry. I've tried several methods i'd read about to re-condition the thread, but it remained brittle. I'd toss it or keep it as a decoration and get some new thread:-)I think you'd be pleased with the Venus or Majestic threads.....want me to send you some to play with?

Jen,
I decided to purchase some majestic from Handy Hands today. I'll have something to look forward to in the mail. I'll let you know what I think of it!
