The "Ultimate Tatting Basket" Theme Contest

The next several posts will come in bite size pieces and not neccesarily in order. The packers are coming tomorrow for the rest of our belongings to go into storage and even though I don't want them too come I still must get ready for them. I thought I would reward myself with a little post...please enjoy!

The only themed contest I had time to enter this year was the "Ultimate Tatting Basket". The object was to put together just that! I thought about it for a long time and this is what I came up with:

Handmade Tatting Shuttles What is more inspiring than a handmade shuttle? Here we have shuttles from Jan Stawasz,David Reed Smith, Georgia Seitz, and Sherry Pence.

Thread Inspiring hand dyed threads in sizes 80 and 20 by "YarnPlayer" and "LadyShuttleMaker". Size 100 "King Tut" quilting thread; a gift from a fellow tatter. (Thank you Diane!)

Tatting Book New tatting books can inspire one to tat like the "The Exquisite Collection of Tatted Butterflies".

Mini Blocking Board with Pins
For tatting on the go.

Needles and Threaders In varying sizes so you'll always have what you need on hand.

Beads Just looking at beads inspires me to find ways to tat with them.

Inspiration Tatting having tatted lace to look at is very inspiring. "Turtle Bracelett" by Teri Dusenbury. "Continuous Tatted Doily", "Grape Edging", and original butterflies by Sherry Pence.

Useful Tools These are a must for any tatting basket: Picot Gauges inspire me to experiment with picots. Nail Clippers to closely trim thread ends, Tweezers to help undo rings and a retractable hook to assist with joins. Sharp scissors because they're handy, fun to use and can protect you from the tatting gremlins who steal your "bits and pieces".

Chocolate My favorite chocolate keeps me happy during my tatting breaks.

Not everything is pictured but hopefully this gives you a good idea.

The other baskets that were entered into the contest were fantastic too! I especially liked the "Black and White Basket" by Mary McCarthy. Once I saw the other baskets I didn't think I had a chance of winning so I was incredibly surprised and honored when my name was announced for first place! Yay!

I love your tatting basket! What a wonderful idea! I like the black and white one also. I may just have to put one together for Mom!

Congratulations, wonderful basket, a veritable treasure chest. Who would be able to resist learning if they got that for a gift.
So happy for you.

Of course the first place goes to you - who cannot resist HDTs and handmade shuttles. Btw, I notice there are 4 shuttles that has not been sold for so long, poor things.
