Ugly tatting thread??? and first painting!

I signed up for a painting class and tonight was my first attempt. With a little guidance from my instructor this is what I painted. My instructor kept hugging me afterwards so I hope it's because she is proud of me and not because she feels sorry for me.
I kept thinking about "Bob Ross" the whole time. His was my very favorite show when I was a kid. All those happy little clouds.

This new Hand Dyed Tatting Thread (HDT) is called "Swamp Thing".
I am having a lot of fun with color lately.

Your painting is wonderful! It's a lovely scene. How talented you are, and how nice that this class is offered nearby.

I like "Swamp Thing"! Interesting how we have both been coming up with "ugly" thread lately, that turns out to be actually pretty darn cool!

HeeHee I LOVED Bob Ross too! I'm always saying happy little clouds when I can! LOLLLL And any chance to watch the show as a kid I did! I just wish my painting skills would have turned out better like yours! GIRL you have a gift! But I can't complain since instead of painting I have a good eye for Silk Ribbon Embroidery motifs and Crazy Quilting instead...can't be good at everything and that is a fair trade off! LOL

((((blushing)))) Thank you everyone, I am actually quite surprised to find that I can paint...like I said.. I LOVE COLOR!
The painting doesn't look so good up close...In fact while I was painting I was quite frustrated, and then the instructor made me step back a few feet to look at it and I was quite amazed that it actually looked like something.

Gina, it is acryllic. I have requested to learn water color and my instructor said I could start next week.

Another wonderful talent with which you were obviously born and just now decided to let out! This is a painting anyone would be proud of, first attempt or not! I'm so proud of you. I like "Swamp Thing" too.

I like your painting too, Sherry, great job! Not just Happy Clouds, but Happy Trees too (sorry I didn't see the show, but my art-school nephew has a Bob Ross T-Shirt that says 'Happy Trees' that I'm sure he'll be wearing past the time it has holes). I'm sure you'll do just as well if not better with watercolor. Mimi

Oh that painting of yours is wonderful. You must have been a painter in a previous life, such natural talent. Aww I wish I could join your watercolour class. That would just be awesome. I am always looking for someone to attend classes with but alas my friends are not craft/art inclined. Enjoy art yes, create art no.

Sherry, I am in awe of your talent as an "artiste"! WOW! That is amazing. Ummmmmm....I think your instructor was hugging you because she was proud of you!
Swamp Thing is a cool color, LOL!

Wow, Sherry, that painting is beautiful! If that was your first attempt imagine what you'll be painting after a couple of more classes. You'll be right up there with Renoir and Monet :)

I love the colors in "Swamp Thing"! I don't find it ugly at all.

What an ambitious first painting; in any medium. I thought perhaps you'ld used a bit of pallet knife work. Acrylics always dried too fast for me! LOL I painted in oils back in the 60's-70's and enjoyed it immensly. Lots of 'tricks/techniques' for special effects. For instance I never actually 'painted' a cloud - more like 'daubing' with a filbert brush.
Kudos on your first effort! I've been thinking of trying water colors again ~ I tend to end up with a very structured, illustrator's style instead of an impressionistic style. All that graphic design training. LOL

I love the thread color ~

I love the painting - I would give you hugs too if I were there.

The name of the HDT is well - just that, ugly but cute. It reminds me of Harry Potter when they had the challenge in the big swamp.
