Has this ever happened to you? A couple of days ago I was using my .5mm hook and it went right into my finger. YUCK....and YES it did hurt like the dickens. I couldn't pull it out because of the hook so I had to take a razor blade and cut the skin to extract the hook that way. It took about half an hour to get it out. The whole time I was thinking, "How do I get myself into these predicaments". Anyway, it would have been nice to have someone around who could have helped but I managed on my own.
This is going to be a "catch up" blog to answer a few questions that I have been getting.
Will start with Mojo; to answer Kathy N's inquiry.
Mojo is awesome. Here he is playing with one of his toys. I was thinking about setting up a web cam in front of his cage and streaming him online so everyone else can enjoy his crazy antics. Would you watch MojoTV???s
He is perpetual energy in itself, the guy never quits playing, singing, talking, eating, bathing, preening, pooping.....oh...is that TMI??
Anyway he makes me laugh everyday...he is messier than my dog, cat and husband put together. I call him my "Messy Mojo Monster."
He hates when I talk on the phone, as I am not able to give him my undivided attention, he makes the most shrill and yes annoying noises in the background. But other than his messiness and his periodic loudness he is pretty awesome!
My dog stoically endures Mojo's existence while my three legged cat has occasional bouts of curiosity and gets a prompt beaky reprimand on the paw or nose.
I don't know what I would do without my furry and feathered kids they are a constant source of joy, comfort and amusement.
This is a sneak peak of a new pattern AND TatsKool's "VanillaSky" hand dyed thread.
This brings us to answer Stephers question of a new butterfly book.
It is no secret that I have been working on The Exquisite Collection of Tatted Butterflies Volume II for over a year. Well, as you may or may not know, I lost ALL of my work when my back up external hard drive failed....long story, blah blah blah.
Soooooo...I've been working day and night for the last two weeks to re-do everything. My goal was to have it published by Christmas but that is not likely to happen under the circumstances so my new goal is to have it out in January of 2010.
Ta for now!

Oh That hurts. Yes I have done that once. But quite that bad. Love to hear about Mojo and what he is up to. Merry Christmas and have a Great New Year.
Oh, YIKES, Sherry I've had that happen to me more often than I care to mention! I've even thought of grabbing the camera and sharing it on my blog! LOL! That's so funny that you actually did do that...I've thought it so many times. Anyway...I hate it when that happens and it happen so often (yes, I'm sorry to say) that I've thought of getting a leather thimble to wear on my forefinger to prevent it from happening. Once I bought what I was told was a "leather thimble" and it ended up being a "Pleather THimble" NOT GOOD and it provides NO PROTECTION whatsoever from the evil 0.5mm and 0.4mm crochet hooks! It had little holes in it so when the hook stabbed me it went in through the pleather thimble and right into my finger!! I had managed to nail a pleather thimble to myself! It was so hard to get out! I will never do that again! Anyway a REAL LEATHER Thimble will prevent that from happening...haven't been able to find one yet!
Gosh weren't you lucky that the hook didn't go straight in but stayed near the surface...ouch all the same.
Your tatting with my thread looks beautiful, look forward to seeing your book, good job you could remember what you had made and how to do it.
Hope your good luck is back.
My two year old would adore Mojo TV.
Webcamming Mojo would be awesome! He is one beautiful bird!
Aww, I want a Mojo! He's just too cute. Thanks for giving an idea about your butterfly book. I'm dyin' to try them out.
I feel your pain about stabbing yourself with a hook today. I'm sitting here at this very moment with a towel wrapped around my middle finger. I just stabbed myself with a .4 mm hook. It went under the cuticle and buried itself about a quarter of an inch in. Yeeeee-OUCH! I didn't even think, I just yanked it out. I'll be sorry for it tomorrow, I can tell.
ow ow ow! Glad you finally got it out!! eeech!
And Mojo.. oh, I am so jealous! What a little beauty he is! Give him little birdy kisses for me!~!
Good grief!! I thought tatting was a SAFE passtime, now I find out you can hurt yourself! When I hand quilt, I have gotten used to stabbing myself repeatedly with the needle as I build up my quilter's callus, but that hook gives me the heeby-jeevies! Hope it feels better today!
Mojo is SO cute!
:) Ann
Reminds me of fishhooks -- those hook things are dangerous! As for the new book -- Wonderful! A new year, a new book. That works. :)
I did one better once...........
I SAT on mine!!!!!!!
and NO way was I going anywhere with it still attached so no matter how much it hurt (and it REALLY did) I had to get DH to get it out before I went to the doctors for a tetanus booster LOL!
All I can say Is Ouch that would have hurt. It has also happened to me. And Mojo is raelly cute. Anyway have a great Christmas and New Year.

That is really disturbing!
Tatskool's thread is beautiful and so is Mojo!
Fox : )
OH OUCH,,,brings back fishing memories, when my ex-friends dog came barreling through between me and my pole (was baiting a hook) just when my uhm friend when to cast her's,,, needless to say fishing was cut short with a trip to the ER, because I actually stopped the dog (big Samoyed) with a hook embedded in my middle finger. Doc was afraid it was embedded in the bone it was sooo deep.
Yea I feel for you!!!
Ahhhh Mojo is sooo cute. We have 2 cockatiels and 4 parakeets that keep us entertained too. They really don't like ppl on the phone for sure!!! :p
BEAUTIUFL thread!!!!
I agree with Tatting Chic you need to go to a quilt supplier (on line or store) and get a leather thimble! I know they make them because all my quilting friends have them!Ouch! Hope you pinky is healing.
Birds are so much fun-I know my life wouldn't be complete without my little guys!
Hope you and yours have a safe and happy holidays and I be standing in line for your new book!
I have a leather thimble and it just seems so bulky. I do however like the small, tacky, clear pads that you press on to the finger. They work great. And, yes, I went looking for such products because in 2007 I had a series of events with tiny crochet hooks. The first time I said, "damn" and DH looked up because it isn't my habit to swear in every day language...He looked up from his paper, over his glasses and said, "Did you hurt yourself?" I held up my hand, with the hook stuck out like a harpoon and said, "Oh no, I just thought my finger was a picot that needed attached." Sarcasm is a free service in my home. I considered getting nippers and cutting it the way I'd done fishhooks (no not in my person, but in a neighbor's cat); but, I'd have to shove it all the way through, so I kind of wiggled it out w/out cutting ~ very painful, much gritting of teeth. the particular tip of the finger that was repeatedly attacked had been nearly severed by a knife (machete size) when i was trying to separate steaks for dinner (whilst I was giving my daughter a home perm), I ended up getting stitches and the poor child ended up with hair like Ronald McDonald and my kitchen looked like a scene from an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Halcyon days of yore.
We too have a bird ~ Has no personality at all, just excrement and noise. If it had a personality besides screaming every time I get near it, I'd probably like it a bit more. I've had budgies that would bathe in tea cups and sit on ones finger...
I think this one is possessed. It isn't mine...we are babysitting it (for 3 years now). He lives in a beautiful, vintage bamboo cage in ~ wait for it ~
my bathroom! LOL Prefers to be alone. xxx Grams
Good Grief, Charlie Brown!!
You certainly started something with this post! I've never winced so much or laughed so hard at everyone's comments/adventures!
My only 'mishap' with my 14(USA) crochet hook was that the hook itself somehow got bent (about an inch up from the hook) at a precarious angle. It could break at any time if I'm not careful. I have no idea how that happened! I had 'lost' it in the chair cushion and when I found it, it was bent. SO GLAD the hook was damaged and not ME! (Don't want to go there!) But these hooks ARE difficult to replace!
Thanks for the MOJO Update! A webcam would be awesome! I'm amazed that your menagerie all 'get along' - sort of!
Can't believe how much tatting/designing you're doing with those wrists (and now sore finger!). PLEASE take it easy!
Of course, another book would be awesome, too.
Dare I ask - is your hubby able to come home for Christmas? I so want you to have a great holiday. Please know we all think of you often and are aware of the sacrifices that military families are making for all of us.
Have to admit I don't love snow as much as you do! Fortunately we didn't get as much as the southern and New England states!
