No Tatting today...

O.k., so I have been away to San Diego for the last few days. Of course we had to pick the hottest and busiest time of year, but boy oh boy did we have some fun and relaxation. We went to the beach, went sea kayaking, went to Balboa park where I took this picture of an orchid, we went to Sea World where this picture of a magnificent Beluga Whale was taken and we ate lot's of yummy food.

It was a lovely and delightful break even though I got virtually no sleep due to the record highs in temperature.
I did tat a little on vacation and will share the results of that when it is finished.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention how wonderful Anheuser-Busch is for their support with the "Here's to the Heroes" program. We got into Sea World for free because of our active duty status. They made all the "heroes" and their families stand up to be honored at the beginning of the Shamu show. It was very humbling and of course tears poured down my cheek like a leaky faucet. It is wonderful and humbling to be recognized for the daily sacrifices we make. It softens the blows for the far too many birthdays and anniversaries and weddings and births and all those important family functions that we have missed out on for the last 8 years.
Sometimes with the way our media is I feel like everyone is against us and no one understands what it is like to never be settled because we are always moving. But I realized that no matter what the media says there are people out there who are empathetic and grateful for these sacrifices that we and other military families make. It makes it all worth it and I will try to remember this the next time my husband leaves for months on end and everything falls apart in his absence. (I've got lots of funny stories along this line.)
Anyway, I have a lot of sleep to catch up on.....toodles.

I hope you'll pass on my appreciation to your husband for his military service. I'm sure it must be difficult for you to have him gone for long periods of time, and I cannot imagine the difficulties you have each had to face. Military families hold a special place in my heart!

The orchid is beautiful! Wouldn't the color combinations look gorgeous in a bowl? Of course, I have no idea if something like that is even possible! Can't wait to see what you've been tatting!

I am so glad that you got some time together and had a great vacation. Having been married to the Air Force for 6 years, a great deal of that time spent alone half way around the world, I have a great appreciation for your trials. Give your husband my thanks and prayers and know that you are both appreciated very much.
No matter what anyone thinks about the current war, or any other, our men are going where they are sent and doing the jobs they were sent to do. God bless our military!
