My "virtual" house has burned down...

My husband has a job that requires him to "compartmentalize" all the time. Many of you may have to do the same thing. I have never really been good at it. If I am happy everyone knows it and if I am sad, that too is carried with me everywhere I go and in everything I do. I guess I kind of live life with my heart on my sleeve.
Well something happened last week that has required me to practice compartmentalization...(whew that is a BIG word).
In fact I have locked it up, pushed it away and try not to think about it at all. If I start to think about it I will go completely bananas and lose it big time!
I am going to tell you what happened in a clinical manner and without emotion...because that is the only way I will be able to tell it!

When we came back from Korea my computer wasn't working right. I very recently had to do a complete reformatting of my hard disk. No worries though because I am a good girl and I always have a back up. I went to use my back up hard drive last week and it failed too!
Ahem...all my tatting books in progress, patterns, a life time of photos, writings, and not to mention a billion songs that took me two weeks to digitize from all of our music CD's. Oh and let's not forget precious home videos.

O.k. I better stop here, I can feel my chest tightening and the lump rising in my throat.

Shake it off!

Tomorrow I am sending the hard disk away in hopes of some kind of data retrieval but it is not guaranteed and if I am lucky will set me back only $400ish.

In the meantime I am distracting myself with activities.

...like my latest colorway "FAERIES"
(A special thank you to www.selinafenech.com for the use of her beautiful and inspirational artwork.)

Oooh no! That is terrible! Sigh. I don't know why things like this happen. I'm sending you a virtual hug. Feel free to drive over here if you want a real one lol!

The thread is BEAUTIFUL though. You are such a great artist in so many ways.

Lord, please be with Sherry. Help her know how near you are and how much you love her.

OH, I'M speechless. I can just 'feel' your devastation, dear young woman. I'm sending you a big hug; not that it's much help ~ but my love is all I have to give!

Oh, I am SO sorry! But there IS hope!

My friend's husband's computer crashed over the summer - dead as a doornail. He had all their financials on it and many files that would have been impossible to reproduce or extremely time-consuming. She bought a hard drive SHELL from, I think Frye's, and put the PC hard drive in it - BOOM, she was able to access the files again. She is VERY computer savvy, so was not afraid to try herself. I would probably go the send it off route also, but I just wanted to offer you hope that you will get your files back.

it's all our worst nightmare. how can we put our trust in all this digital stuff and yet we have too. I couldn't possibly print all my photos. Will I ever be able to keep transferring all my grandbaby movies.
I hate where we are going...but like my daughter said when our friend lost everything in jatrina..."It's not every one who gets to start collecting all this stuff again with a clean slate"!
Fingers crossed for success!!! Feng shui!

OH NO!! How horrible! The last time that happened to us I bought a 32 gig thumb drive so it's easier to back up our files. The sad thing is, I STILL don't use it as often as I should! LOL I get lulled into a sense of security when everything is working properly.

I hope you are able to have all of your info retrieved!

OUCH! I understand, my computer is acting up(something in the air). I also make hard copies of everything! I hope the computer gods smile down on you.
My lovely shuttle arrived today! Many thanks and I can't wait to use it!

Holey Sox, Batman! What an awful thing to have happen. No wonder you're choked up. I hope the magicians can recover your files.

Oh no! That's awful.

That said, your new Faeries colorway makes me want to dance. It is golden and whimsical and full of special magic.

Have faith Sherry. I sense the Karma Gods are headed your way and you are owed some good karma big time. Thank you for sharing as it has clarified my thinking and made me realize that $100 for a 1 TB back up hard drive is not a luxury but a necessity and on the top of my list for next to purchase and USE items.

Yikes! I hope the recovery works! I can't even imagine what I would do...EVERYTHING is on my mac...

Just reading this gave me chills!

I think you have handled all your crises and setbacks with great resilience. It's good that you express your frustration and emotions. It's important to let off steam.

Here's hoping everything can be retrieved.

Freddy Krueger in Tat-land? OMG, that is such a nightmare.

I hope the good magicians out there in the great Internet stratosphere can work their magical tricks and recover it all. I have faith in the technology!
And a hunch it will work out. ♥
