CAMP WANNA GIGGLE

I had the best time at Camp Wanna Tat. There was more laughing, giggling and teasing going on than anything else. I made a lot of new friends, learned some new things and ate very well! Oh boy can these gals cook!
The first day we worked with single shuttle split rings and that afternoon we tatted this little beauty:

Tatted in size 80 "Majestic".
I just LOVE Camelia's pineapple designs. They are a joy to tat!

My new friend Karla taught me Lucet (I know, I know, it isn't tatting...but it IS something I have wanted to learn for awhile). Karla made a wonderful video on YouTube where you can learn it too.

I still need to perfect my tension. Currently I am working on a lucet cord in silk. I already have lots of ideas for using lucet cord with tatting.

The second day we received a delightful apron pattern from Irene Morgan. Unfortunately I have not yet finished tatting it because I was a "knotty" girl who was working on another project during this time.

I am happy to say that that "other" project was the last project I needed to finish for my Master's T.A.T. program. I cannot tell you how wonderful it felt to turn in the T.A.T.
I have been working on the program for nearly 3 years. If all goes well, I will have my Master's tatting certificate soon. Double WHOO HOO!!!

...and lastly I had the privilege of teaching a lesson on folded rings to my new buddies. It is a lesson which I plan to share here when I get a few minutes to do so.....Hmmmm....hopefully by the end of the year??? LOL

Still Rock'n

I haven't blogged about our tatting group for the last two weeks but we have still been busy. I just forgot to bring my camera the last couple of times...but I brought it today! Last week I bought a giant American pizza from the base and brought it to the group to share. American pizza and Korean pizza are two different animals....so I thought I'd let them try "REAL" pizza LOL!
I am such a proud big sister! Kyoung-mi tatted these lovely gifts for a Christmas party....and do you recognize the HDT??? I think these guys are addicted now too ....(insert evil laugh)!
Hye-Soon and Kyoung-mi completed Ruth Perry's Celtic snowflakes. Next week we will go on to beads, then block tatting, then maybe clunies....ah...the fun never ends! If you click on their names you will be taken to their blogs....they are in Korean but you can still see their beautiful tatting!

Look at this beautiful Christmas card Kyoung-mi has made for her most special friends! She is playing shy in the photos....but she isn't shy...so don't be fooled.
I am so proud of them! Jinju was there too but was a little late and missed the photos. They are all really awesome students and friends!
Also, we may be getting another tatting student soon and she is an American......more on that later.

It's a good start

My students diligently working away....

Hye-soon first ring

Kyoung-mi's first ring.

Mimi, maybe I CAN teach!

Mimi Dillman is a very talented tatting teacher and so is Georgia Seitz and many others I have been so blessed to meet. They have that "something special".
I know I lack some skills when it comes to teaching tatting, but if I don't bring it to Korea...who will? So I gave it my very best shot and our first class was a success.

Kyoung-mi served delicious grapes and tea...the whole evening was just delightful!

While we were tatting lot's of people came and went and it looks like I picked up another student for next Monday!
Yep....it looks like I'll give classes every Monday until no one is interested anymore!

Hye-soon seems really extra excited about tatting. I will be ordering shuttles and hooks for these gals right away. (I still can't believe that there are NO tatting supplies in Korea) In the meantime I gave them some HDT and temporary shuttles and a homework assignment.

There is no word in Hangul for "tatting" so I told Kyoung-mi that she should make a word up for it.

If this turns into a big thing...would anyone be interested in donating any tatting supplies? I just thought I would throw that out there. I would love for one or more of these girls to be proficient enough when I leave to carry on the art.

I traded Kyoung-mi one of my ceramic shuttles for some raw clay and I am going to try and make more shuttles while I am here. I have already been inspired by Korean pottery. Due to materials and firing techniques these shuttles will be very different from my usual stuff.

Oh...what a very exciting day!
