The Korean me and a Tatted Bookmark

I have a dear friend who is in her 4th year of medical school. We haven't seen each other in two years but we do our best to maintain our friendship. She is so very busy and yet somehow she has made the time to send me not one but two care packages. Her kindness and thoughtfullness has blown me away. Sooooo I spent all weekend gathering goodies to send to her and I just finished tatting the last item to go into her care package.
I found this reprint of a 1915 Pricilla pattern in a Dover book. I couldn't find the name of the designer. I didn't even look at the directions, only the picture:

I thought this would make a lovely bookmark in the new hand dyed tatting silk.
...and this is what transpired:

This is tatted in size 20 "Marina" tatting silk. It's feels so awesome and it's all shiny. I guess I really like it because I am a tactile person.

I am pretty sure I met the Korean version of me! Her name is Kyoung-mi and she owns a little pottery shop that took my breath away when I first saw it. She is also a painter, photographer and has a wicked sense of humor... which I love. Most Koreans have a very slap stick sense of humor.
We had an immediate connection. I took a few of my shuttles and other ceramic items to show her. I even tatted a little bit for her. Like I said before, tatting doesn't exist in Korea. So I offered to teach her to tat and she is delighted with the offer. Yay! My first Korean student. I hope I am a good teacher....I haven't been too successfull teaching in the past.
I bought a little piece of pottery from her to put into my friends care package. I am so excited to send it all.

Hi Sherry, How are you doing in Korea? Do you have problems communicating or do most people speak English there? How nice you have met someone who shares your love of making pottery. Good luck with teaching her tatting. Your tatted bookmark is lovely. I think you did a great job for not having a pattern. The thread color is awesome! I have tatted with silk before. It is YLI brand. Is that what you are using with your HDT? The YLI thread is 100% silk and is made in Japan. You are right that silk is wonderful to tat with, the thread glides so smoothly. I will get some your your Silk HDT soon. Have a great day!

Thanks Carol,
I have found that most Koreans do NOT speak english, sometimes it can be challenging to communicate. The silk is 100% silk made here in Korea. I don't know what it is called since the name is in Hangul.

The bookmark is lovely. YOu did a great job of interpreting it without the pattern. Of course, that lovely thread didn't hurt. Your friend will be pleased. Congratulations of meeting your Korean twin. Her shop looks amazing. I'm sure she was very impressed with your shuttles and tatting as well. Have fun!

How exciting for you to meet a kindred spirit! Does this mean you'll be making more shuttles while in Korea... you know, the Korean collection... if so, make sure you put me on your list!

The bookmark is gorgeous! I can't wait to try your silk thread!

By the way, I love the new look of your blog. It looks so serene and lacy!

Oh, my gosh, all of this is so totally cool! I love your bookmark and the silk thread is beautiful. Iwish I could get some of your beautiful silk threads right now. That's so nice of you and your friend to exchange care packages.
I think it is SOOOOO totally cool that you found a fellow potter there in Korea. It's so nice to see you making friends and hopefully she will learn tatting, too! I can't wait to hear more about it.

So happy for you, Sherry! Your new friend looks like a jolly, fun-loving person. That is wonderful that you two have so many interests to share.
Your bookmark is truly lovely, an improvement over the vintage version.

Wow, your bookmark is beautiful and I love the shades the silk thread. I am surprised that tatting is not well-known in Korea. I've some beautiful knot-works from Korea. Hopefully your new Korean student will spread the word around and get more interested in tatting.

Marina does tat real well. I hope you are going to make more. Seems I hope to be able to purchase some later - now it is quite tight.

Will be nice if you can introduce some to tatting in Korea.
