Snow and more Tatting Shuttles

This isn't our first snow but it is the first that has decided to stick for a little while.

Isn't this a neat photo that my hubby took of our dog? I am generally the photographer in the family but every now and then he gets really nice snap!

The snow is definately helping my holiday spirit to improve. Also I finally got some sleep last night and I am feeling much better today....still sore but much better. The soonest I can get into the Doc's (without going to the emergency room) is Tuesday. So I am just taking it easy this weekend.

Snowflake Hat

This is what I had in mind for the snowflake. I didn't end up using a stiffener after all. I decided to put the snowflake on top of the hat rather than on the side. I used size 20 flora for the snowflake. I then used invisible thread to carefully sew it on to the hat.
I have never formally been taught to crochet. I taught myself. I don't know the different stitches nor how to read patterns. But in spite of all that I crocheted this hat over the weekend, so if you see about a bazillion mistakes then you know why.

Snow already??

I went hiking with hubby this weekend and it snowed on us. I decided to go home and make a snowflake to celebrate. This pattern is from DMC's Tatting for Today #15209 "Tree Top Ornament", Pg 6.
I have to say that it wasn't all that fun to tat, I started to get really bored half way through but I think it turned out well. It is a very attractive pattern.
I tatted it for a specific reason which I will share later.
Does anyone know the best way to stiffen this piece?
