Summer Tatting Exchange

Well in spite of my rotten luck with secret exchanges in the past (9 out of 10 exchanges I have been forgotten and left to feel very sorry for myself) I decided to join the "Here be Tatters" summer exchange. I know that exchanges are about the giving and not the receiving, but it is nice to be acknowledged in the very least.
Anyhow I am very excited to send my partner her package. I just finished it up and I decided to share one very small part of what is included.

I won't say anything about it and since it is just one of many items it won't spoil the surprise. Hmmmmm....I wonder who my partner could be????
It seems like everyone has joined this exchange and it is going to be so fun at the end of the month to see what everyone has given and gotten.

I still have not found out what these flowers are yet. Everyone has been really helpful...but there has not been a definitive answer yet. I am on the fence about them being Hibiscus ...because they don't have that large phallic stem in the middle.
We had a monsoon yesterday which knocked most of the blooms off. But hubby was nice enough to take this picture so that you smarties out there can get a better size reference.

I had enough energy today to do a little exercise...which is a BIG deal. I think I am on the mend.

So glad to know that you are feeling better. Very soon you'll be able to go exploring in Korea. I think Korea has a beautiful countryside, from what I see when I visited there a few years back..

I love the dragonfly pin(it looks like a pin to me) that you made for the exchange. Hmmm .... I wonder who the lucky person is.

Can't help you with the identity of the flower, but it is a lovely colour.

Hi Sherry, we have been working on it. There is no way they are Hibiscus as you say.
Nearest we have got so far is the Family Bignoniaceae which has species..Clysostoma and Pandorea which have flowers that look so like yours but don't hang in racemes, but there may be a species that does.

That's all we can do with the books that we have but that gives you a start in your internet search.

Oh he's just found Podranea ricasoliana Pink trumpet vine on the web, leaves are similar and hanging habit is the same. Maybe it's a diff species/var of Podranea. Look it up and see what you think.

Nice to hear that you are feeling better! Those really are beautiful flowers.
I was going to join that exchange you mentioned, but somehow my email got lost at the time of deadline, so I missed out this time. Gee whiz, and I might have been lucky enough to get your wonderful stuff :( I'll join in next time.
That dragonfly is the cutest ever! Did you make him yourself, Sherry?

I'm with Yarnplayer. The dragonfly is the cutest! I will have to join in next time too. I am so glad you are feeling some better. I hope this is the start of a complete recovery. You look so pretty standing by those flowers. What a lovely picture.

It is definitely good news that you are feeling better, yahoo.
The tatting with the dragonfly is the cutest I have seen for days.

Your little flower with the dragon fly is absolutely adorable. It looks like your recipient in the exchange will be very very lucky. I'm so sorry to hear you've been left out SOOOOOO many times. That is absolutely horrid. I've been lucky with Karin the one time I did an official exchange. Well, if you ever want to do a private exchange of tatting with me you just give me a holler. I'll make sure you're not forgetten, deary!!!

I hope you get something in this exchange. For a long time, I stopped participating in exchanges because about half didn't follow through but then I got brave again and in the few I've been in the past few years, it's been 100% return. It really is so much fun when it all works out. Glad you felt up to some exercise.
:-) Gina

Thank you Jon! Maybe it's a pin.....or maybe not.... (:

Pamela, yours has been the most helpful information so far. I do think it must belong to the podranea/pandorea family. I still cannot find this color anywhere on the web ....yet.

Thank you Marilee! The little dragonfly is actually a button that I purchased at Shuttlebirds. This was one of Patti Duffs "Make and Take projects".

Hi Lala, thank you for the compliment. I was thinking that my hair is pretty frizzy (:

Thanks Chiclet, that idea is a definate possiblity! Hugs!

Thanks Gina, I figured I would be safe in this exhange with Sue Hanson running it..... (:

The dragonfly flower is sooo cute! I'm so sorry to hear about your exchanges. Like TattingChic, if you want to do a private exchange of tatting, I'm game for it.

It occurred to me that your flower, since it seems to be of the kind that grows rapidly, and anywhere - could possibly be a species of morning glory! Looks very much like one we had in Sydney - different colour, but the same looking flower.

Maureen, yup the flower is very similar but the leaves and the viney habit are very different.

We thought of morning glory/convolvulus/'Ipomea' immediately but nope it isn't!
